May 18th will always be one of those shows that stands out from the rest for me. From the beautifully composed set one to the spacy second set, this show was on point from beginning to end. There was a little something for everyone this night. The band on fire with grace treated everyone in the old dance hall to a show of epic proportions.

“Bass is heavy, Drummer is steady” Set one starts off with a bass-driven “Congo Man Chant”. Steve and Bernie feeding off each other’s energy hitting those melodic notes keeping everything in line. What was beautiful about this cover was that they teased “Get Up Stand Up” throughout the song. Having missed this at sound check earlier in the day, I was quite pleased to be part of it. I’m sure the audience would agree that this was the perfect way to start off the night’s show.  Also in this set, two of my favorites, “One For Brother Mike,” which I have not heard for some time and “High And Lonesome,” which over-all was one of the most beautiful versions I’ve heard to date.

Set two showed how versatile this band is, each player a legend in his own right, seasoned but never bashful. This set kicked off with a “Space” leading into an acoustic “Stella Blue,” which is always a crowd pleaser. Had an out-of-body experience during the melody of “It’s Up To You-Better Get It In Your Soul- It’s Up To You”. The show ended with a sing along to “Take Me To The River”.

I wasn’t there but keep listening to this show over and over. During the ending of Stella Blue, Steve quotes Bach’s Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring. That moment, among many in this show, brought a chill up my spine and a tear (of joy) to my eye. Just beautiful.

This show was absolutely amazing…the vibe was right and the band was having lots of fun together and really meshing and gelling together this particular night, i believe this show was the highlight on the Spring Tour, at least for me, the band had progressed a lot since I saw the tour opener in Bethlehem,PA 5/9. Everyone would agree that was in attendance that they most definately got their moneys worth. I could go on and on about this night but I’ll just say that it was the best Kimock performance I’ve seen this year at least, but I’m always ready to have my mind melted again soon !!!
    I’m sure I will.
With lots of anticipation for the next experience, I’m ready for the 9/8 show at Jorma’s Fur Peace Ranch and 11/18 @t the Jorma/SK show in Cinci. I hope to make it to PA again in August, not gonna make it out West this year but all you Left Coasters have fun on Summer Tour, see yah in the Fall.-dustin
